KURT MERKI JR.
Kurt Merki Jr. è nato nel 1978 ad Accra in Ghana, figlio di Kurt Merki Sr., maestro
falegname svizzero e madre ghanese stilista che ha studiato a Londra negli anni ‘60.
Cresciuto tra il Ghana e la Svizzera, ha iniziato il suo apprendistato nella fabbrica di
mobili di suo padre, dove ha appreso le abilità per la costruzione di mobili.
Nel 2008 si è trasferito Milano per approfondire la sua conoscenza del design presso la Scuola Politecnica di Design, dove ha completato con successo il Master in
Architettura d’Interni e Design Industriale.
Nel 2009 ha lavorato presso lo studio Antonio Citterio a Milano, dopo questa esperienza è tornato a Zurigo per avviare il proprio Studio di Design nel 2010.
Born in Accra, Ghana in 1978 as the oldest son of Kurt Merki Sr., a Swiss master
carpenter, and his Ghanaian mother, a fashion designer who studied in London in
the 1960s.
Growing up between Ghana and Switzerland, Kurt Jr. started his apprenticeship
in his father’s furniture factory where he learnt the skills of carpentry. In 2008 he
moved to Milan, Italy to deepen his knowledge of design at the Design Polytechnic
School.
There he successfully completed his Masters in interior architecture and industrial
design. In 2009 he worked at Antonio Citterio studio in Milan before shortly afterwards moving back to Zurich to start his own design Studio in 2010.
