Italian approach to develop a National Adaptation Strategy: lessons learnt from other European efforts Sergio Castellari, CMCC / INGV ECCA Conference Session “Adaptation strategies and planning - on national, regional” Hamburg, March 19, 2013 Some definitions: NAS and NAP National Adaptation Strategy (NAS): • Involvement of stakeholders and decision-makers. • Analysis of possible mainstreaming of adaptation in the ITALIAN NAS different sectorial policies. ITALIAN NAS • Recommendations and guidelines to build up adaptive capacity in different sectors and at different spatial scales (national, regional and local) and to reduce societal costs. • Review after n years. • A National Adaptation platform National Adaptation Plan (NAP): • Implementation of NAS with governance and funding allocatton. • Evaluation of implementation. (Indicators). Italian NAS: the Kick off The Italian Ministry for Environment, Land and Sea started the work toward a NAS.
