The first and decisive stage of human decision making is

The scandal over allegations that the richest woman in
France, Liliane Bettencourt, has hidden part of her fortune
from the tax authorities has involved a high-profile member
of the government of President Nicolas Sarkozy. The Minister
for Employment, Eric Woerth, - whose wife worked for
Bettencourt handling some of her finances - has denied all
allegations: his links with tjhe heiress (87 years old) has come
under review after the former butler of Bettencourt made
secret tapes of conversations in her home in the elegant Paris
suburb of Neuilly-sur-Seine. The tapes are said to have
suggested that Bettencourt has conspired to evade taxes by
hiding around 80m Euros in Swiss bank accounts by failing to
declare goods and donations to the major party of Sarkozy's
(the UMP).

VIENNA, Austria (AP) -- Dioxin poisoning caused the mysterious illness of Ukrainian presidential candidate Viktor Yushchenko, a
doctor said Saturday, adding that the poison could have been put in his soup.
Yushchenko is now in satisfactory condition and dioxin levels in his liver have returned to normal, Dr. Michael Zimpfer, director of
Vienna's private Rudolfinerhaus clinic, said at a news conference.
A series of tests run over the past 24 hours provided conclusive evidence of the poisoning, Zimpfer said.
``There is no doubt about the fact that Mr. Yushchenko's disease -- especially following the results of the blood work -- has been
caused by a case of poisoning by dioxin,'' Zimpfer said.
The 50-year-old opposition leader first fell ill in September and was rushed to the Vienna hospital. He resumed campaigning later in
the month but his mysterious illness had left his face pockmarked and ashen.
Yushchcenko also suffered back pain, acute pancreatitis and nerve paralysis on the left side of his face.
He has accused Ukrainian authorities of trying to poison him ahead of Ukraine's presidential vote -- an allegation they have denied.
``We suspect involvement of an external party, but we cannot answer as to who cooked what or who was with him while he ate,''
Zimpfer said, adding that tests showed the dioxin was taken orally.
Zimpfer said Yushchenko's blood and tissue registered concentrations of dioxin -- one of the most toxic chemicals -- that were 1,000
times above normal levels.
``It would be quite easy to administer this amount in a soup,'' Zimpfer said.

Pipe Stave Hollow Road, nel Monte Sinai è ora denominata in onore degli eroe

MOUNT SINAI, N.Y. — A Long Island community has named a street after a
soldier who died of an accidental overdose after struggling with post-traumatic stress
disorder for almost five years.
Pipe Stave Hollow Road in Mount Sinai is now named in honor of local hero, Pfc.
Joseph Dwyer. The Long Island native enlisted in the Army two days after the Sept.
11, 2001, terror attacks and served in Iraq. A Military Times photo of Dwyer running
through a battle zone carrying an Iraqi boy became one of the iconic images of the
war.
Dwyer died in June of an accidental overdose after years of treatment for his
psychological disorder. Friends who helped get the street renamed for Dwyer have
started an organization aimed at assisting soldiers who struggle with PTSD.

why he refuses to fight in Afghanistan. He spoke to Alexandra Topping.
I was sent to Afghanistan in 2006 and from the start it was very challenging, it's a very hard place to be posted.
There was so much confusion about why we were there, whether it was to get rid of the poppy fields, or for
national security.
I saw repatriations all the time and it just grinds you down.
I want the government to consider the welfare of the guys out there, and the welfare of the Afghan people.
People are suffering and it shouldn't be allowed.
When I came back from Afghanistan in 2007 I was promoted and redeployed in the UK.
I wasn't supposed to be going back originally, because it would have been in breach of harmony guidelines
[under which soldiers should not spend more than more 13 months within a three-year period on tour].
But then we were told we would be going back.
And I just couldn't go back.
It was an incredibly difficult thing to do, I loved the army, but I had lost my faith in the structure, the
government and the cause.
I went to south-east Asia, I just needed to escape.
I was dealing with it very badly, drinking a lot.
Depression is a word that gets bandied about easily, but I wasn't very happy, that's for sure.
I was trying to find space to sort myself out, trying to drown it with drink.

We questioned establishment media spin which portrayed the attendees as kind-hearted and concerned
philanthropists by pointing out that Ted Turner has publicly advocated shocking population reduction
programs that would cull the human population by a staggering 95%. He has also called for a Communiststyle one child policy to be mandated by governments in the west.


In China, the one child policy is enforced by means of taxes on each subsequent child, allied to an
intimidation program which includes secret police and “family planning” authorities kidnapping pregnant
women from their homes and performing forced abortions.
Of course, Turner completely fails to follow his own rules on how everyone else should live their lives,
having five children and owning no less than 2 million acres of land.
In the third world, Turner has contributed literally billions to population reduction, namely through
United Nations programs, leading the way for the likes of Bill & Melinda Gates and Warren Buffet
(Gates’ father has long been a leading board member of Planned Parenthood and a top eugenicist).
The notion that these elitists merely want to slow population growth in order to improve health is a
complete misnomer. Slowing the growth of the world’s population while also improving its health are two
irreconcilable concepts to the elite.


The role of media figures in adolescent development: relations between autonomy,
attachment, and interest in celebrities

The influence of figures from the mass media on adolescent development has been
somewhat neglected in the literature to date. One particularly important influence
concerns the parasocial relationships that adolescents form with favourite celebrities,
which have been described as secondary attachments. In this study, celebrity interest
was investigated in a sample of 191 British adolescents between the ages of 11 and 16,
using a shortened version of the Celebrity Attitude Scale. It was hypothesised that
celebrity attachments would reflect the transition from parental attachment to peer
attachments and would also be related to increasing emotional autonomy. It was
found that, after controlling for age-related effects, high emotional autonomy was a
significant predictor of celebrity interest, as well as high attachment to peers and low
attachment to parents. Different patterns were observed according to the functions
of celebrity attachment: intense, personal interest in celebrities was best predicted by
low levels of security and closeness. These findings suggest that celebrities provide
adolescents with a secondary group of pseudo-friends during a time of increasing
autonomy from parents, but intense focus on a single celebrity may result from
difficulties in making this transition.

Football hooliganism is unruly and destructive
behaviour—such as brawls, vandalism and
intimidation—by association football club fans.[1]
Fights between supporters of rival teams may take
place before or after football matches at prearranged locations away from stadiums, in order to
avoid arrests by the police, or they can erupt
spontaneously at the stadium or in the surrounding
streets. Football hooliganism can range from
shouts and small-scale fistfights and disturbances
to huge riots where firms attack each other with
deadly weapons such as sports bats, bottles, rocks,
and knives.[

The first instance of football violence is unknown, as many football games
have been played around the world for years, but football and violence can
be arbitrarily traced back to at least the Middle Ages in England. In 1314,
Edward II banned football (which then was a violent free-for-all involving
rival villages fly-hacking a pig's bladder across the local heath) because he
believed the disorder surrounding matches might lead to social unrest or
even treason.[5] The first recorded instances of football hooliganism in the
modern game took place in the 1880s in England, a period when gangs of
supporters would intimidate neighbourhoods, as well as attack referees and
opposing supporters and players. In 1885, after Preston North End beat
Aston Villa 5-0 in a friendly match, the two teams were pelted with stones;
attacked with sticks, punched, kicked and spat at. One Preston player was
beaten so severely that he lost consciousness. Press reports of the time
described the fans as "howling roughs".[5] The following year, Preston fans
fought Queen's Park fans in a railway station; the first recorded instance of
football hooliganism away from a match. In 1905, several Preston fans were
tried for hooliganism, including a "drunk and disorderly" 70 year old
woman, following their match against Blackburn Rovers.

In 2001, Duncan Watts, a professor at Columbia University, attempted to recreate
Milgram's experiment on the internet, using an e-mail message as the "package" that


James Buchanan:
The theory of private choice is "politics without
romance." The wishful thinking displaced by
this theory assumes that the participants in the
political sphere aspire to promote the common
good. In the conventional view of "public
interest", public officials are portrayed as
benevolent "civil servants" who faithfully carry
out the "will of the people."
In modeling the behavior of individuals as driven by the goal of
utility maximization and economic jargon for a personal sense
of wellness, economists do not deny that people care about their

The subject of sex has been part of the medium almost since
its start. But displays of sex, intimacy and even body parts,
for the most part, have been evolutionary, not revolutionary.
In the 1950s, TV couldn't show married couples sleeping in
the same bed. In the '60s, exposing the bellybutton of I
Dream of Jeannie's Barbara Eden was verboten. Braless
jiggles on Charlie's Angels were considered daring in the
'70s. But by the '90s, the expanse of adult-themed content on
premium channels such as HBO and sex-infused music
videos on MTV made baring the derriere of a hefty NYPD
Blue cop acceptable to the masses on ABC.

Sex on TV: It's increasingly uncut — and unavoidable

If sex sells, TV programmers are adding inventory to an already
humongous sale.
Viewers are about to see full-frontal male nudity, heterosexual,
homosexual and group sex, and graphic scenes rarely — if ever — seen on
mainstream TV. And that's just on pay-cable Starz's fornication-heavy, 13episode Spartacus: Blood and Sand (premieres Friday, 10 ET/PT), a 300meets-Caligula epic about the Roman Empire's notorious slave/gladiator.
MTV plans a June launch of The Hard Times of RJ Berger, a scripted
comedy about a nerdy 15-year-old whose cool quotient heats up when his
anatomical gift is accidentally exposed. And basic-cable network Spike's
just-launched raunchy college-sports comedy Blue Mountain State
(Tuesdays, 10 ET/PT) showed a masturbating school mascot on the Jan. 12
premiere, while last night's episode featured a scene suggesting oral sex
between a coed and jock before the opening credits.
You need to be loud


"You need to get eyeballs. You need to be loud," says Spike
programming chief Kevin Kay, who is pairing Blue
Mountain with reruns of HBO's sex-centric Entourage.
"Our viewers are experiencing content on other cable
channels or the Web. Movies and video games are going
after this audience, too."
TV's latest sexually charged offerings add to the current
wave of attention-seeking — if less visually explicit —
reality and scripted programs filled with frank themes and
content, such as MTV's hookup-focused reality hit Jersey
Shore.
Mature content?


ABC's Cougar Town — which had a memorable scene that
implied Courteney Cox's character administering oral sex to
her date — premiered last fall. Also new in the past year:
HBO's Hung, a dramedy about a well-endowed teacher
moonlighting as a prostitute; National Geographic TV's
adult-themed documentary series, Taboo; and VH1's
titillating Sex Rehab With Dr. Drew.
"You can definitely see an arms race," says FX programming
chief John Landgraf, whose groundbreaking series such as
Rescue Me and Nip/Tuck set new standards for mature
content on basic cable.

Established shows are amping up, too. Nip/Tuck is wrapping its
sixth and final season with boundary-pushing themes centered on
its often sexually compulsive plastic surgeons, and ABC's
Desperate Housewives has cast former Dexter star Julie Benz as a
stripper for the series' fifth season.
Showtime's Secret Diary of a Call Girl returns Monday with
hooker Belle (Billie Piper) looking for source material for another
book through new sexual experiences with clients.
Showtime's aptly titled Californication recently ended its third
season with sex-addicted Hank Moody (David Duchovny) getting
more booty than ever — juggling three women while pursuing a
fourth. Moody's best friend and manager (Evan Handler) grappled
with an ex-wife and randy boss (Kathleen Turner), while guest
star Rick Springfield, playing himself, had several solo and group
conquests.

"It's funny what's considered risqué these days," says
Audrey Landers, whose sexpot image, burnished by eight
seasons on '80s hit Dallas, led to a Playboy pictorial in 1983.
Last year, the actress, singer and fashion designer was
developing a cable reality show, which was rejected for its
tameness. "They suggested my mother, 18-year-old niece and
I sex things up by posing for Playboy," says Landers, 53.
Critics such as the Parents Television Council decry the
mushrooming sexual content. "It's become downright
ubiquitous," says council president Tim Winter. "Families
are under siege, teenage girls are under siege. You don't
know what the cultural impact will be down the road."

Others, such as Fordham University media observer Paul
Levinson, say TV merely mirrors life. "It sounds radical, but this is
healthy for popular culture," Levinson says. "Mainstream TV has
been frozen in a very puritanical position by Congress, the FCC
and the Supreme Court — all who don't seem to understand the
First Amendment. Sex is part of life. If people are offended, there's
a simple remedy: Don't watch."
Taste standards and broadcast guidelines aside, sexual content —
and where to push boundaries — is largely established by
programmers seeking traction among fickle viewers, then
benchmarked by others who want to push the envelope.
"When advertising dollars are down you have to cut through —
you have to get attention," says JD Roth, producer of NBC reality
hit The Biggest Loser.
Danger: out of touch with




ABC programming chief Steve McPherson says he has faced no
pressure to edge up content but acknowledges late prime-time slots
offer opportunities. "If you can get a loud broadcast-acceptable 10
p.m. show, it's a time to take chances," McPherson says.
Moreover, broadcast executives acknowledge that premiumchannel and basic-cable-channel rivals are altering the TV
landscape.
"We don't want to be out of touch with the way society is going,"
says NBC's Angela Bromstad. "At the same time, you have to be
careful what you put on air."
Says Doug Herzog, president of MTV Networks entertainment
group: "The line moves every day, so you got to move with it. You
can't put the genie back in the bottle."

Californication creator Tom Kapinos says there'll be
consequences for the central character's sexual
rambunctiousness next season, and perhaps more of an
attempt to keep his pants zipped. "I don't know how much
further you can push things," Kapinos says. "But this is still
a show about a single guy in L.A. There's a lot of trouble to
get into."
Greenblatt notes Spartacus could raise the bar — or lower it
— when it comes to both the pervasiveness and explicitness
of TV sex. "I'm sure after Spartacus, there'll be more," he
says. "It's the natural evolution of things."

Blue Mountain State producer Brian Robbins, whose credits
include Smallville and One Tree Hill, says he's not
surprised by the explicit sex on air these days.
The irony isn't lost on Robbins, perhaps best known as the
long-haired lothario Eric Mardian on ABC's '80s sitcom
Head of the Class. "I was the stud on that show, but I didn't
get to do anything," Robbins says. These days, "anything
goes."
And as far as Blue Mountain State? Says Robbins: "I'd be
way too embarrassed to sit in a room with my mother
watching it."

This morning I totally hit the jackpot! I stumbled upon the
queen of the guidettes from MTV’s the Jersey Shore’s own
YouTube channel. SnookTv to be exact.
SnookTv features videos of the girl who invented the poof
(so she says) hanging out with her group of girls, lip-syncing
and singing to songs, and just talking complete garbage.
There is also a twelve second video of her at school saying
how much she hates it. Snooki and her group of friends
called themselves the Brunette Mafia. Wow. Really?



Snooki might be a little obsessed with herself, but it is pretty
damn funny to watch her. She has a slide show called
“Hottest Guidettes Ever,” playing pictures of her and her
friends to the song “Feel Your Love” but Kim Sozzi. The
girls are making kissy faces pursing their lips and tilting
their heads in almost all the pictures trying to look sexy.
She has over a thousand subscribers to her channel! Can
you believe it? I can, there is definitely something really
ridiculously funny about this mess of a girl that I like
watching. I’m a little embarrassed to say but I too just
became a subscriber.

wrong… or not, right? Wasn’t right from the start clearly, but apparently he wasn’t interested in sex… but
who would be with Big Bird? Is he gay or just not that into her? Hmm… By looking at this picture, I say
the verdict is… gay…

Vienna eventually came to the conclusion that the real reason for Jake’s aversion to intimacy with her was
