I_IMMIGRATION PROBLEM
In many African countries living conditions are dreadful. food is a question of life and death. thousands of people die from starvation. Agriculture and industry are underdeveloped. The only solution for poor people is to leave their native lands in search of a job. In many countries dictatorship is still existent. This often leads people to emigrate to countries where civil rights, freedom of press and of expression are granted. In Europe the number of political refugees is high. For example, illegal immagration is dealt with as a crime, punishable with fines of up to €10.000. Migrants without a stay permit can be held for up to 6 months in detention centres. If they are not granted a stay permit, they are expelled and must return to their own country. The processes of integration are recent in Italy and vary according to the local realities and the immigrant groups. Most of the Africans in Sicily are Tunisians and Moroccans, but many are from Nigeria and the Ivory Coast. There are also big communities of Chinese and Indians .
