Raw materials
What is the situation now?
• Lack of knowledge of mineral
processing “know-how” in the raw
materials sector.
• Countries where a mineral
processing knowledge/tradition
exists, but where a “real” mining
activity does not practically
exists any more.
• Importance of raw materials
recovery.

Lack of knowledge of mineral processing “knowhow” in the raw materials sector
Most of the technologies currently
utilised in mineral processing can be
relatively easy transferred to the raw
material sector/environmental
(recycling) field (e.g. solid waste
processing, control and recovery).
Raw materials industry is more and
more “hungry” in terms of efficient
processing technologies.

Importance of raw materials recovery
Raw materials recovery will increase
according to more and more
environmental constraints.
To establish and implement policies
with the aim to divert waste from
large scale land filling and focus on
maximal recovery.
Raw materials could be used and
recycled much more efficiently.
