GREETINGS!
Fall Session 2010 The Division of Preparatory Studies Enriching lives through musical experience! GREETINGS! From the director, Mary Hawn… Greetings to all of you “workers in the field” - undertaking once more the annual cycle of activities related to the growth and harvest of our musical crop. Loosening the soil, seeding, special watering, moving plants when they grow bigger, making preparations for spring in the deep of winter, provide good analogies for the learning/teaching process, perhaps most appropriately in a prairie province. Did you know that the agricultural cycle is based on the lunar calendar rather than the solar calendar? That is because the lunar calendar more accurately indicates weather conditions. So what?! You are probably wondering. The “so what” is simply my acknowledging that so much of a musician’s work is done away from the sunshine, away from the bright lights of applause and accolade, and in the humble quiet of studios and practice rooms. The “so what” is my recognition and thanks for all the efforts of you, the students, parents, and teachers in the Division of Preparatory Studies. Being in an environment of such commitment is truly inspiring. Many of the results of this commitment are listed below. With a particularly full slate of events this year, each moment has been spoken for at least twice over. Please accept my apology for any omissions and for the delay in passing on such good news!
