METEOR Nutrient Compliance for Falling Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant
February 3, 2010 Nutrient Compliance ® METEOR for Falling Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant Chesterfield County, Virginia 14 MGD IFAS SYSTEM BIOLOGICAL GROUP Nutrient Compliance for Falling Creek WWTP Chesterfield, VA BACKGROUND QUICK FACTS: >FLOW RATE: 14 MGD >PERMIT: NH3-N < 1 mg/l, NOX-N < 2 mg/l The 14 MGD Falling Creek WWTP, is a sister plant to the Proctor’s Creek WWTP owned and operated by Chesterfield county. Like Proctor’s creek it’s effluent finally flows into the Chesapeake Bay, due to which the facility is required to meet identical effluent standards as Proctor’s Creek. Ammonia nitrogen and nitrate plus nitrite nitrogen leaving the plants must be less than 1 mg/l and 2 mg/l respectively. >NUMBER OF UNITS: 3 >START DATE: March 2009 Infilco Degremont inc. has used it’s Meteor® process identical to Proctor’s Creek, which utilizes floating biofilm carriers in association with conventional activated sludge so that the plant’s existing aeration basins can be modified to meet the new stringent effluent standards without the need for new construction. The existing basins have been modified with baffle walls so that treatment can be achieved entirely within the original structure. The full scale facility was designed in association with the county’s consultant, Malcolm Pirnie Inc.
