PwC RiskMinds 2014 – Daily Update Monday, December 8, 2014 PwC Regulatory Summit Presentation - Global Banking at a Crossroads: Regulatory Reform Around the World PwC’s presence at RiskMinds opened with a presentation by Mike Alix entitled “Global Banking at a Crossroads: Regulatory Reform Around the World.” Mike synthesized the global regulatory landscape into four overarching categories in order to effectively convey the impact of regulation on global banks’ strategies and business models. His key takeaway was that although many regulations are simply a cost to bear, investment in governance, infrastructure, controls, and culture should in fact be welcomed by firms. Such investments not only lead to improved risk management, but also facilitate internal information flow that will make the firm more nimble to innovate and to seize opportunities in the face of evolving political, economic, and technological forces. Firms that embrace this view will remain strong global players and will be best able to navigate the changing regulatory landscape. Those that do not will be forced to retrench – in geographic ambitions, product breadth, or customer base. Mike Alix Principal US FS Consulting Risk Leader PwC US +1 646-471-3724 © 2014 PwC.
