C Nome: Potenziamento Classe: Data: Reading S P R I N G P R O J E C T making our school a better place Takapuna High School in Auckland is a great school, but we can do things to make it better. We have put our ideas on how to make the school a better place on the school’s website. More dustbins Students shouldn’t leave rubbish in the school, but some students do. Last weekend people dropped a lot of rubbish while they were watching the school rugby match. Every week, the school caretakers pick up hundreds of crisp packets, cola cans and other rubbish. We should stop our friends when they try to drop rubbish. We also think people wouldn’t drop rubbish if there were more dustbins around the school. We think the school should buy some extra dustbins. A nature garden The area between the school canteen and Rangitoto Drive is a wasteland at the moment. If the school built a wall and planted some trees, the area would become a small nature garden. It would be great if students could use this area at lunchtimes. The Biology teachers might want to use it in their nature classes as well. If we made a small pond, animals and birds would visit the garden, too. A mural for our school Students from our school sometimes write graffiti on the walls at night. It looks horrible and the school has to spend a lot of money to clean the walls. If the school didn’t have to clean the graffiti, it would have more money to buy things for the school, for example new computers. We think if students made a big mural on the outside wall, people wouldn’t want to destroy it with graffiti. We would like the mural to tell the story of the history of New Zealand. We should paint pictures of the Maori people arriving in New Zealand and other important historical events. We could also have a big picture of Rangitoto Volcano in it. It would be great! Crime in our school Students often leave their bags in their classrooms and the changing rooms and sometimes people steal things. Last week a student left her bag in the Maths classroom while she was having lunch. Someone opened her bag and took her MP3 player. This week someone stole a mobile phone from a student’s jacket in the changing rooms, too. This is terrible, but things like this wouldn’t happen if students used their lockers. We should put up ‘Use Your Locker’ posters in the school corridors.
