1945. It is currently made up of 193 Member States.
It works to:

In 1945,

UNESCO was created in order to respond to the firm belief of nations,
forged by two world wars in less than a generation, that political and economic
agreements are not enough to build a lasting peace.
UNESCO is known as the "intellectual" agency of the United Nations. It is a
specialized agency of the UN created with the purpose to promote peace and
understanding among nations through education, science, culture, communication and
information.
Unesco is made up by:
• The General Conference and it consists of the representatives of UNESCO's
Member States. It meets every two years. the policies and the main lines of work of

• The Executive Board and it ensures the overall management of UNESCO. It
prepares the work of the General Conference and sees that its decisions are
properly carried out. Every two years the General Conference assigns specific tasks
to the Board. Other functions stem from agreements concluded between UNESCO
and the United Nations.
At October 2014, the members of UNESCO are 195 countries plus 9 Associate
Members. It has a constitution that was signed in 16 November 1945.
Italy was admitted at the 8 November 1947
