la guancia a coloro

la barba; non ho
sottratto la faccia
agli insulti e agli

to those who
strike me,
my cheeks to
those who pulled
my beard;
neither did I shield
my face
from blows, spittle
and disgrace.

Disprezzato e reietto
dagli uomini, uomo dei
dolori che ben conosce il
patire, come uno
davanti al quale ci si
copre la faccia, era
disprezzato e non ne
avevamo alcuna stima.
Eppure egli si è caricato
delle nostre sofferenze,
si è addossato i nostri
dolori e noi lo
giudicavamo castigato,
percosso da Dio e
umiliato. Egli è stato
trafitto per i nostri
delitti, schiacciato per le
nostre iniquità. Il
castigo che ci dà
salvezza si è abbattuto
su di lui; per le sue
piaghe noi siamo stati
guariti. (Is 53, 3-5)
He was despised and
rejected,
a man of sorrows
familiar with grief,
a man from whom
people hide their face,
spurned and
considered of no
account.
Yet ours were the
sorrows he bore,
ours were the
sufferings he endured,
although we
considered him as one
punished by God,
stricken and brought
low.

essere riprovato dagli anziani, dai sommi sacerdoti e dagli scribi, poi venire

Jesus then began to teach them that the Son of Man had to suffer many things
and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the Law. He

E se siamo figli,
siamo anche eredi:
eredi di Dio, coeredi
di Cristo, se
veramente
partecipiamo alle
sue sofferenze per
partecipare anche alla
sua gloria. Io ritengo,
infatti, che le
sofferenze del
momento presente
non sono
paragonabili alla
gloria futura che
dovrà essere rivelata

If we are children, we
are heirs, too. Ours

inheritance of God
