Next Steps for ET - Agenda - Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare
Michele Punturo INFN Perugia and EGO http://www.et-gw.eu/ 3rd ET annual workshop - Budapest 23-24/11/2010 1 ET design study next steps The ET design study FP7 project will conclude at the end of June 2011 Important dates: 14/12/2010 - Mid Term Review meeting in Brussels Status of the project, formal review, verification of the level of accomplishment of the proposed milestones 01/2011-03/2011: TWT face to face “enlarged” meeting and WP4 meeting 03/2011-04/2011: Delivering of the ET design Study document 04/2011-05/2011: ET public event: design study presentation to the institutions 3rd ET annual workshop - Budapest 23-24/11/2010 2 ET Timeline ET Design ET ET needs to Prep. fill the gap phase ET science team needs a coordination tool 3rd ET annual workshop - Budapest 23-24/11/2010 ET needs to be in the ESFRI roadmap (2012 revision?) 3 ET needs Real ET activities will start when advanced detectors will be operative and “first detection” occurred, but, meanwhile The design of ET needs to evolve from the conceptual phase to the technical one The site candidate list must be reduced arriving to few possibilities The infrastructures must be designed and customized for the few sites The detector design must evolves according to the lessons learned in the advanced interferometers R&D on specific ET items (cryogenics, Silicon optics, lasers, GGN suppression) must be performed in the next years Science Team activities must be coordinated and ET must be present on the major GW conferences 3rd ET annual workshop - Budapest 2324/11/2010 4 ET R&D National institutions are correctly focused on the realization of the advanced detectors, but we must stimulate all possible source of support National “Integrated”: ASPERA R&D call late 2011: we are acting to ask for ASPERA support European: ILIAS-next failed in 2010 Addressed to underground labs. ET marginally involved Next “Integration Activity” call in 2011 Last minute attempt to include a GW subject inside 3rd ET annual workshop - Budapest 2324/11/2010 5 ET true richness The richness of the ET project is the science team Participants per Beneficiary VU, 7 CNRS, 18 CU, 10 UNIGLASGOW, 35 EGO, 13 UNIBHAM, 15 INFN, 61 MPG, 43 3rd ET annual workshop - Budapest 23-24/11/2010 6 Participants per NON-Beneficiary Washington State University University of Southampton University of Sheffield University of Minnesota Universiteit Van Amsterdam Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona Università degli studi di Trento Tuebingen University The Royal Observatory SZEGED Raman research institute Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center Moscow State University MIT Melbourne University Louisiana State University LIGO KFKI Research Institute for Particle and Nuclear Physics Institute for Astronomy, University of Cambridge ICRR University of Tokyo Hungarian Academy of science GGKI Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena Ege University Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron Dearborn observatory (NorthWestern University) Cork University CERN CALTECH British Astromomical Association 0 2 4 6 8 10 7 12 ET & conferences ET science team activities need to be coordinated We must guarantee the presence of 3rd generation GW observatories science in the next major conferences as occurred at the past GWADW 2010 and Amaldi 8 we need sessions devoted to 3G in GWADW 2011: Elba, May 22-28, 2011 Amaldi 9, July 10-15, 2011 … 3rd ET annual workshop - Budapest 23-24/11/2010 8 ETnet New proposal submitted to the European Commission Participant organization name Country INFRA-2011-3.2: Coordination actions, conferences and European Gravitational Observatory Italy studies supporting policy development, including Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Italy international cooperation, forNucleare research infrastructures in all MaxGermany fields of S&T.
