The site plan of Option 2 from the feasibility study was reviewed (3 story building on the park site). Locations of car parking, student drop‐off, bus parking, play fields, tennis and basketball courts, site access, and limitations of the stream buffer were reviewed. The 3 floor plans were reviewed in detail. The second floor is the main entry level. This level contains Administration, cafeteria, kitchen, music, technology education, art, and one of three academic clusters. The upper level contains the media center and one of the academic clusters. The lower level contains the third academic cluster, gymnasium, locker rooms, athletic support spaces, and mechanical room. The lower level is at grade, allowing the ability to walk out on grade at this level. There are 2 stairs at each end of the academic clusters, a main stair in the entry lobby, and a stair at the end of administration connecting to the media center above. Ms. Morris noted a preference for the guidance counselor’s to be located in the administrative suite. One suggestion was to switch guidance with the staff room. HCM to review. A Family and Consumer Science Lab should be located in one of the Tech Ed Labs with kitchen units. This is a program currently taught at Farquhar Middle School. The school provides a strong digital arts program. The computer lab next to the Tech. Ed. Lab can be utilized for this program. A Workroom/ Team Room for the Arts staff is located between the art room and the computer tech lab. Science: Staff will need to determine which level of the building chemistry will be located so that the chemical storage room can be properly located. If the location changes later, that is OK, but it will require staff to move supplies from the chemical storage room to the classroom/ lab via cart. Lockers are configured in bays in the center core between the corridors rather than along the corridor walls. Lockers are low height to allow views across the lockers. Lockers on each floor serve the grade level on that floor. 3D images of this configuration will be provided at the next meeting. The Media Production Room by the Media Center can be used for a T.V. Studio. The size of the school is designed to meet demographics 6 years out. The school is designed for 793 students. Question: Can the Media Center entry be off the main lobby where the Media Production is located. Answer: Typically the entry is in the center to allow for better monitoring of the media center by staff being centrally located rather than at one end. The entry to the media center will be designed to be easily accessible from the main stair and elevator. The Media Office and adjacent support spaces may be able to flip with the media center entry to bring the entry closer to the lobby. HCM will review. There is a preference for the gym storage to be near the outdoor gym storage. HCM will review. The exterior massing was reviewed. The massing is shown to indicate the height of the volumes and areas of green roof vs. sloped roof. It is not meant to show exterior materials or the final design of the building. Elevations are preliminary and the next step in the evolution of the design of the building. The design is to be rural and rustic. Concern that the massing looks too modern. Note Page 2 of 3 www.hcm2.com 2‐16 2‐17 that the design will evolve over the next meetings. More detailed elevations and 3 dimensional images will be shown at the next meeting. Ms. Morris noted that she liked some of the images that HCM presented at the interview. Next Meetings: Meeting #3: Thursday, June 14, 2012; 7:00 – 8:30 PM.
