Additional screening with vegetation will be provided along the North and East perimeter of the site. The neighboring houses to the North and East www.hcm2.com 2‐03 2‐04 2‐05 2‐06 2‐07 2‐08 2‐09 2‐10 2‐11 2‐12 are approximately 400 feet from the parent and bus drop off areas. The required number of parking spaces will be provided on site. Afternoon bus loading occurs in 7 minutes (2:40 – 2:47). Approximately 20‐30 parents park on site in the afternoon to pick‐up students. Additional site development will be explored to minimize impact on the adjacent neighbors. The floor plans were reviewed. Several changes were made since the last presentation. The athletic area was reworked to provide a gym lobby as required by the Educational Specifications. This lobby will provide an after‐hours access point to the building which will allow other sections of the building to be closed off during evening activities. The science classrooms were moved to the courtyard side of the building and are all stacked and located near a stair. The design of the exterior was reviewed. The design intent is to continue with the rural and rustic look that was developed and presented previously. Images of the West and North sides of the building were shown. Additional images are being created for other sides of the building and will be shown at future presentations including the courtyard area. Question: Is there a Family & Consumer Science. Lab?
Answer: Yes, there is a Multi‐Purpose Technology Education Lab that will have kitchens along the perimeter. Question: Can the lockers be installed along the corridor walls rather than in the center for better supervision? Answer: Lockers are configured in bays in the center core between the corridors rather than along the corridor walls and the lockers are low height to allow views across the lockers. This arrangement allows better supervision and more windows from the classrooms into the corridor. Lockers on each floor serve the grade level on that floor. 3D images of this configuration will be provided at the next meeting Question: Can the Staff Lounge be located on the main level rather than the lower level? Answer: Yes, but it will need to trade with another space. This will be reviewed to determine what space could be relocated to the lower level in its place. Question: Do doors open directly onto the courtyard?
Answer: Yes, that is the intention, to allow direct access to the courtyard from the lower level. Question: Is the bridge enclosed? Answer: Yes, the bridge is enclosed from the elements and will contain glass to allow views out to the courtyard/ landscape. The current schedule is for the Preliminary Plans Presentation to the Board of Education to occur in December. The presentation will be posted on the School website: http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/schools/farquharms/ Next Meeting: PTA/ Community Schematic Design Presentation: Tuesday, November 12, 2013; 7:30 PM.
