IL GIORNO DEL SIGNORE
THE LORD’S DAY
Lessero il libro della legge di Dio a sezioni, spiegandone il
significato, così da far comprendere ciò che si leggeva. Mentre
Esdra, sacerdote e scriba, e i leviti ammaestravano il popolo,
Neemia, che era il governatore, disse a tutto il popolo: (Ne 8, 8-9a)
They read from the Book of the Law of God, clarifying and
interpreting the meaning, so that everyone might understand
what they were hearing. Then Ezra, the teacher of the Law, said
to the people, (Ne 8, 8-9a
«Questo
giorno è
sacro al
Signore,
vostro Dio.
Non fate
cordoglio e
non
piangete!».
In realtà,
tutto il
popolo
piangeva,
ascoltando
le parole
della legge.

"This day is dedicated to Yahweh, your God, so do not be sad or weep.
" He said this because all wept when they heard the reading of the Law.

Disse ancora: «Andate, mangiate carni grasse, bevete vini dolci e mandatene porzioni a chi
non ha nulla di preparato, perché questo giorno è sacro al Signore nostro. Non rattristatevi,

Alcuni sono stati posti da Dio nella Chiesa al primo
grado come apostoli, al secondo come profeti, al terzo
come dottori; poi vengono i prodigi, poi i doni di
guarigione, quelli che hanno il dono dell'assistenza, del

So God has appointed us in the Church. First
apostles, second prophets, third teachers. Then
come miracles, then the gift of healing, material
help, administration in the Church and the gift of
tongues. (1Cor 12, 28)
Sono forse tutti apostoli? Tutti profeti? Tutti dottori? Tutti operatori di prodigi? Tutti
possiedono doni di guarigione? Tutti parlano in lingue? Tutti fanno da interpreti? Voi, però,
aspirate ai doni maggiori. (1Cor 12, 29-31a)
Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Can all perform miracles, or cure the
sick, or speak in tongues, or explain what was said in tongues? Be that as it may, set your

Jesus acted with
the power of the
Spirit, and on his
return to Galilee
the news about
him spread

that territory. He
began teaching in
the synagogues

he entered the
synagogue on the
sabbath as he
usually did.

He stood up to read and they handed him the book of the prophet Isaiah. Jesus
then unrolled the scroll and found the place where it is written: "The Spirit of
the Lord is upon me. He has anointed me to bring good news to the poor, to
proclaim liberty to captives and new sight to the blind; to free the oppressed

Il giorno del Signore
Gesù è il vero il compimento della
legge.
La domenica del Signore è
davvero giorno di festa perché Egli
ci dona la vera gioia, attraverso se
stesso e la sua Parola.
Accogliere Cristo e la sua Parola ci
aiuta a conoscere il cuore di Dio.
Noi dobbiamo impegnarci a vivere
con la coerenza di chi sa ascoltare
questa Parola e la sa mettere in
pratica. La festa è completa quando
ci nutriamo dell’Eucaristia con
cuore sincero e profonda gratitudine.

The Lord’s Day
Jesus is the true fulfillment of the
Law.
Sunday, belonging to the Lord, is a
true feast day because He provides us
true joy, through Himself and his
Word.
Welcoming Christ and His Word
helps us in getting to know God’s
heart. We have to make a
commitment to live with the
coherence of a person who knows
how to listen to the Word and put it
into practice. This feast is complete
when we nourish ourselves with the
Eucharist and have a sincere heart
and deeply-felt gratitude. G.L.
