It must be mobilized at multiple scales, across disciplines and knowledge systems to ensure sustainable development and the implementation of SDGs. • The post-2015 decision-making needs to rely on a strong science-policy interface as a means to manage and mobilize scientific as well as local and indigenous knowledge systems to identify and implement solutions, to effectively use large datasets, to fill data gaps, to improve knowledge management, and to monitor progresses towards SD. http://www.unesco.org/venice C ulture • Culture is an essential component of human development. It represents a source of identity, innovation and creativity. • Culture is an important factor for social inclusion and poverty eradication, providing for sustainable economic growth and job creation, economic resilience and sustainable use of resources as well as sustainable tourism. • Culture further reinforces the ownership of development policies and effectiveness in their implementation. • Mobilizing the power of culture – through cultural and natural heritage and creative industries – can catalyze transformative change. http://www.unesco.org/venice http://www.unesco.org/venice http://www.unesco.org/venice http://www.unesco.org/venice “The Failed States Index” – Foreign Policy, January 2015 Rank Country Score 1 Somalia 113,9 2 Congo 111,9 3 Sudan 111,0 4 South Sudan 110,6 5 Chad 109,0 6 Yemen 107,0 7 Afghanistan 106,7 8 Haiti 105,3 9 Central Africa Republic 105,0 10 Zimbabwe 105,2 11 Iraq 103,9 12 Côte d’Ivoire 103,5 13 Pakistan 102,9 14 Guinea 101,3 15 Guinea Bissau 101,1 16 Nigeria 100,7 17 Kenya 99,6 18 Niger 99,0 19 Ethiopia 98,9 20 Burundi 97,6 http://www.unesco.org/venice http://www.unesco.org/venice Our Ecological Footprint… http://www.unesco.org/venice Our Ecological Footprint… SD occurs when all humans can have fulfilling lives without degrading our planet.
