FORWARD MARKETS COMMISSION, MUMBAI
Highlights/ Important Developments for the fortnight from 16.3.2013 to 31.3.2013
•
Total value of trading at the Commodity Exchanges during the fortnight, 16th March, 2013 to 31st March, 2013 was
`5,67,651.52 crore. The cumulative value of trade from 1stApril, 2012 upto 31st March, 2013 during the financial
year 2012-13 was `170,46,840.09 crore. The corresponding figures for the previous year were ` 7,56,553.19 crore
and ` 181, 26,103.78 crore respectively.
•
In view of the price trends in Potato contracts, traded at MCX, the Commission on 19.3.2013 imposed the
following regulatory measures:(1) An additional margin of 15 % in cash on long and short side of all running Potato
contracts (April, May and June 2013 contracts) w.e.f. 21.03.2013 was imposed and (2) No Member/ Client was
allowed to build up fresh position during last 7 working days of the all running contracts (April, May and June 2013
contracts).
In order to maintain, the Commission on 28th March, 2013 imposed the same structure of special margins on
the potato contracts to be launched at NCDEX on the 1st April, 2013.

The Ministry, on 14th March, 2013 conveyed its approval for renewal of the recognition of Surendranagar Cotton
Oil & Oilseeds Association Ltd, Surendranagar in respect of forward contracts in Kapas for a further period of
only one year from 1.04.2013 to 31.03.2014 (both days inclusive).
•
The Commission, on 25th March, 2013, approved the Memorandum and Articles of Association of Universal
Commodity Exchange (UCX), Navi Mumubai and also issued Registration Certificate to the said Exchange.

The Commission, on 25th March 2013 renewed the registration of Surendranagar Cotton Oil & Oilseeds Association
Ltd, Surendranagar, in respect of forward contracts in Kapas for the period from 1st April 2013 to 31st March,
2014 (both days inclusive).
•
Permission for launching of contracts in various commodities was granted to the Exchanges as follows:
