PASSATO PROSSIMO DEI VERBI RIFLESSIVI
CON ESSERE
You already know how to form the Passato Prossimo tense.
For the reflexive verbs you:
• Use part of the present tense of essere
• Then add the past participle of the verb you
want to put into the past – do not forget of the
reflexive pronouns, mi, ti, si….
Eg lui si è
svegliato
Noi(f) ci siamo svegliate
Reflexive pronoun
Part of essere
Past participle
When the passato prossimo is formed with essere,
the past participle behaves like an adjective.
So, if you have a feminine subject, you must also
have a feminine past participle.
Es.
Lui si è lavato
(masculine)
BUT
Lei si è lavata
(feminine)
If the subject is plural, the past participle
must also be plural.
Es.
Loro si sono lavati
(masculine plural)
Loro (f) si sono lavate
(feminine plural)
